Unseating Tinubu through a coalition is impossible, forming a merger now is too late – Keyamo

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), has dismissed the possibility of any political coalition unseating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, calling such plans “impossible” and a mere “storm in a teacup.”

Speaking onChannels TV’s Politics Todayon April 28, Keyamo said efforts by opposition leaders like Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, Atiku Abubakar, and Nasir El-Rufai to form a coalition were either misguided or too late. He argued that the structure of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is too strong to be toppled by last-minute alliances or mergers. He also referenced PDP figures, including Ayo Fayose, who have dismissed coalition talks as futile.

Keyamo emphasized that forming a credible merger takes years — citing how Tinubu and Buhari began discussions right after the 2011 elections before birthing the APC. “It’s already too late for such a process now,” he said.

He also downplayed the influence of youth-driven movements like the Obidient wave, saying that without strong political structures, even historically revered leaders like Awolowo and Azikiwe couldn’t win national elections.

Despite challenges during the 2023 elections, Keyamo noted, the APC’s structure withstood pressures like fuel scarcity and naira redesign. He added that Tinubu has even more political support in the North than in his home region.

On internal party matters, he disclosed that he recently ceded APC leadership in Delta State to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, stressing that such sacrifices are necessary to strengthen the party ahead of 2027.
